The Haiku She Chose

It was my birthday. Mine, a co-worker who was sitting opposite me, sent me this haiku through private chat:

The boy across me—
He's wearing a boyish smile
I wish he were straight.

Its simplicity struck me right to the core. I replied with these two haiku and asked her to pick one she liked.

1
Just right across me
Oh! Her smokey eyes get me.
The lady is Mine.

2
Just right across me
Oh! Her smokey eyes get me.
The lady is mine.

Without hesitation, she replied and made the obvious choice.
